The soloist of the popular Ukrainian band Okean Elzy, a famous Ukrainian singer, organized a solo show for the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on Friday (May 13th).
Sviatoslav Vakarchuk accompanied himself on guitar while in white protective clothing in front of a huge control panel inside the famous unit, according to Reuters.
In April 1986, the plant’s fourth reactor exploded during a faulty safety test, sending radiation clouds into waves in much of Europe.
A well-known Ukrainian singer gave a concert at Chernobyl, praising the ability of workers there to prevent disasters
The plant, which is still radioactive, is about 100 km (62 miles) from Kyiv. In February, Russian invading forces captured him, but control was later resumed by Ukraine.
Speaking off-site after his show, Vakarchuk praised the current workforce for preventing another disaster.
But he said another tragedy had taken place in Ukraine, in the southern city of Mariupol.
Russian forces bombed the Azovstal steelworks, where the last bastion of hundreds of Ukrainian defenders is housed. The city is almost completely controlled by Russia after more than two months of siege.
