US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that Ukraine had assured that it would not use long-range US weapons systems provided by the Washington government against targets in neighboring Russia.
Blinken was asked what could be done to minimize the risk of escalation as the United States supplies Ukraine with long-range weapons systems after a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Washington, according to Reuters.
Ukraine to receive US weapons to fight Russia effectively, consisting of long-range missile systems
President Joe Biden has agreed to provide Ukraine with missile systems that can accurately hit long-range Russian targets as part of a $ 700 million package of weapons to be unveiled later in the day.
“Ukrainians have assured us that they will not use these systems against targets in Russia,” Blinken said. “There is a strong relationship of trust between Ukraine and the United States, as well as with our allies and partners.”
The burning wreck of a Russian tank is in the ground, while a Ukrainian soldier is carrying weapons that are said to have caused the destruction of the tank, the BBC notes.
Javelin, a ground-to-air weapon that can shoot down targets up to 4 km away and can be controlled by a portable unit that doesn’t look much different from a video game console, but can send a meter-long projectile directly to the side, or above an armored tank.
The very presence of American-made weapons is “causing panic” among Russian troops, according to the Ukrainian military – and it is about to get another 2,000 of them.
Javelin missiles are among the items promised to Ukraine by the United States in a new $ 800 million (608.3 million pounds) military assistance package, President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday.
Other weapons include drones that can be turned into flying bombs and anti-aircraft weapons.
But will these transports help Ukraine to overcome the more numerous and better equipped invasion force of Russia?
What will America send to Ukraine?
The new US aid to Ukraine includes a wide range of military equipment, ranging from 25,000 sets of armor and helmets each to rifles and grenade launchers, thousands of other anti-tank weapons and cartridges over 20 m ammunition.
