Elon Musk’s plan for a futuristic transport: when you will travel at huge speeds through tunnels dug by Boring Company

One thing we know about SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. It’s greedy.

A concrete case, while buying Twitter, the billionaire say that its tunnel boring company Boring Company is trying to “build a functional Hyperloop” in the “coming years”.

It’s been quite a while since Musk last talked about Hyperloop, a futuristic transportation system that would transport passengers through narrow, depressurized tubes at huge speeds.

While companies like Virgin Galactic have made some progress in building early prototypes and figuring out what the passenger experience might look like, Musk was visibly silent about the idea, despite being one of the earliest. his supporters.

“From a physical point of view, this is the fastest possible way to get from one point to another at distances of less than about 2,000 miles,” Musk wrote on Twitter recently. “The ship is faster for longer voyages.”

Elon Musk is not giving up on Hyperloop

So far, Boring Company has been working to dig tunnels that allow Tesla vehicles to carry passengers. The company’s inaugural operational tunnel connects two ends of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Now it looks like the Hyperloop could be headed underground, where it would be “immune to surface weather,” according to Musk. “So it wouldn’t matter to Hyperloop if a hurricane hit the surface,” he said added he. “You wouldn’t even notice.”

But the transition from four-wheeled Tesla cars to futuristic vehicles racing through vacuum tubes is a massive step. As Virgin Hyperloop’s projects have shown, bringing such a futuristic transportation system into reality is incredibly difficult from both an engineering and financial standpoint. In February, the company gave up half of its staff to focus on freight, not passenger – at least in the near future.

It remains to be seen whether the Boring Company will have more to show in the coming years, especially as the digging of other tunnels across the country doubles, which will likely look more like Las Vegas than Elon’s new vision. Musk.

But it is a reaffirmation by Elon Musk that this dream of his is still alive, somehow.
