There are many phones whose power button breaks, sooner or later. You don’t have to have an iPhone or Android to find yourself in a situation where you can’t turn off or restart your smartphone.
The more you use a phone, the more likely it is that a mechanical component will suffer a problem. In the context of pressing the power button dozens of times a day, if not hundreds, to put it on standby or turn on the screen, that smaller or larger button is prone to failure. In other words, you have every chance of “letting go” when you least expect it.
Although a modern terminal may go out of standby when you lift it off the table or touch its screen, at first glance, you still need power. Maybe you want to restart it or shut it down completely, and when the power button is faulty, chances are the alternatives aren’t the most obvious. Fortunately, there are a few tricks to keep in mind, whether you have an Android or an iPhone.
How to restart an Android phone when the power button is broken
When you’re having trouble with the power button, the quickest way to restart an Android smartphone is to access the quick settings menu or a quick swipe down from the top edge of the device, the same menu where you find Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or airplane mode. Depending on your phone, it may take two swipes down to see all adjustable parameters. Click on power, choose restart and you have solved the case. As an alternative, it is very likely, but not mandatory, that a phone will restart when its battery runs out and you reconnect it to the socket.
How to restart an iPhone without the power button
Any iPhone, Apple Watch, or Mac incorporates a tangible set of parameters designed to enhance accessibility. AssistiveTouch is also part of this category. In Settings, under Accessibility, you’re interested in Touch or Touch. From the new window, check AssistiveTouch and choose Customize Top Level Menu.
Choose one of the default shortcuts by tapping and check Restart. Once you’ve confirmed these changes, all you have to do is tap the new floating menu and choose Restart at any time to restart your phone with a faulty power button. Last but not least, as I mentioned above, you can restart it by plugging it in.
