Ireland has confirmed the first case of monkeypox, according to the country’s health agency, writes Reuters.

In addition to the confirmed case of monkeypox, another suspicious case is being investigated, and the test results are expected, said the Health Service Executive (HSE), according to jurnalul.ro.

About 20 countries where monkeypox is not endemic have reported outbreaks of the virus, with more than 200 confirmed or suspected infections, most in Europe.

Most recently, on Sunday morning, a first case of monkeypox was reported in Greece. The patient from Greece is a tourist who arrived from Great Britain. Both the patient and the person accompanying him to Greece were transferred to a hospital, isolated by other patients. The result of the tests, which is expected on Monday, would confirm or disprove the diagnosis. For Greece, which is expecting a large number of foreign tourists, the presence of the virus will be a big problem.

Smallpox smallpox is said to be a disease from Africa – more precisely, from the center and west of the continent. From there, the disease spread to North America, Europe and Australia. There is already an epidemic in Africa. Outside Africa, at least 11 countries have reported a total of about 80 cases of infection. These countries are Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, the USA and Australia. In Spain and Portugal, the first cases were confirmed in April 2022.
