UPDATE, 13:28: The General Staff of Ukraine said that Russia had launched new attacks on the eastern regions, but without success for Moscow.
“Fighting continues,” according to a report by the General Staff.
Russia continues to send troops near the city of Yazum in the Kharkov region. Russian forces are trying to advance in several places, but Ukrainian troops are repelling the attacks, the report said.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian units fired rockets and artillery. The Russian armed forces are partially regrouping and consolidating their troops, the report said.
In the disputed eastern regions of Lugansk and Donetsk, 14 attacks were repulsed. Ukrainian forces say they have destroyed 11 tanks, nine drones and seven artillery systems.
Much of the fighting was concentrated in the eastern Lugansk and Donetsk regions, which are partly controlled by pro-Russian separatists. Shortly before the invasion, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the independence of those regions, writes Agerpres.
UPDATE, 10:00 a.m .: Ukraine will soon resolve the fuel crisis, even though Russian forces have destroyed a number of oil depots, said the president of the neighboring country, Volodymyr Zelenski.
“There are queues and price increases at gas stations in many parts of our country,” Zelenski said in a speech last night.
“Occupants are deliberately destroying the infrastructure for the production, supply and storage of fuel. Russia has also blocked our ports, so there are no immediate solutions to cover the deficit, “he added.
“But the government promises that in a week, at most two, there will be a fuel supply system for Ukraine that will prevent shortages,” Zelenski said.
Economy Minister Yulia Sviridenko said in a statement that the fuel shortage will be covered in a week, as Ukrainian operators have signed contracts with European suppliers.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on NATO and the United States to stop delivering weapons to Kiev if “they are really interested in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.”
In an interview with China’s official Xinhua news agency, Lavrov also said that the Russian offensive in Ukraine was “according to plan.”
“A continuous flow of weapons of all kinds has entered Ukraine through Poland and other NATO countries,” the Russian foreign minister said.
“If the United States and NATO are really interested in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, then, first of all, they must wake up and stop delivering weapons and ammunition to the Kyiv regime,” he added.
