According to authorities quoted by the local news agency Ukrinform, about 1,000 Ukrainian civilians and soldiers are still at the Azovstal steel plant, including about 600 wounded.

“Many leaders around the world are trying to save the city’s brave defenders,” Zelenski said in the same video message.

“We are doing our best to ensure that the Mariupol evacuation mission is successful,” he said, adding that 340 border guards were fighting in the port city of the Sea of ​​Azov.

New satellite images show the Azovstal plant, from which 20 civilians were evacuated on Saturday night, largely destroyed by Russian bombing.

Azov Battalion Deputy Commander Sviatoslav Palamar said the evacuees, women and children, had arrived “in a suitable place”.
