Olaf Scholz ignores Putin dissatisfied with arms deliveries to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Monday that he was not impressed by warnings from Russian President Vladimir Putin about continued supplies of Western weapons to Ukraine, the dpa reported.

We must not be frightened, “and that is why we will continue with what we started,” Chancellor Scholz said in an interview with ARD’s Tagesthemen news program.

In addition to additional arms deliveries to Ukraine, the Bundeswehr is expected to be better equipped with a planned € 100 billion program.

President Putin has warned against delivering heavy weapons to Ukraine in a telephone conversation with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron late last week. This could further destabilize the situation and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, Putin said.

So far, the German government has agreed to supply two types of heavy weapons: 50 Gepard anti-aircraft armored vehicles and seven Panzerhaubitze 2000 armored howitzers. The latter are heavy artillery pieces. However, Ukraine calls for battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, multiple missile launchers or anti-ship missiles.
