Russia is testing a Zircon hypersonic cruise missile

Russia says it has successfully tested a Zircon hypersonic cruise missile over a distance of about 625 miles, the defense ministry said on Saturday (May 28th).

The rocket was fired from the Barents Sea and hit a target in the White Sea, it is said. The video released by the ministry showed that the rocket was fired from a ship and was going up in the sky on a steep trajectory, according to Reuters.

Russia will have a hypersonic rocket called Zircon available after recent tests as part of Western threat

President Vladimir Putin has described Zircon as part of a new generation of unparalleled weapon systems. Hypersonic weapons can travel at nine times the speed of sound, and Russia has carried out previous Zircon test launches on warships and submarines in the last year.

Russia’s army suffered heavy casualties during its three-month invasion of Ukraine, which it calls a “special operation,” but has continued to conduct high-profile weapons tests to remind the world of its missile technology skills.

Last month it launched a new nuclear-capable intercontinental missile, Sarmat, capable of carrying 10 or more warheads and striking the United States.
