The US will not send high-performance artillery systems to Ukraine for attacks on Russia

US President Joe Biden announced on Monday that he did not intend to send artillery systems to Ukraine that could be used for attacks on Russian territory, but the Kyiv administration warned that victory was “unlikely” in the event.

“We do not intend to supply Ukraine with missile systems that could reach Russian territory,” President Joseph Biden was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The Kyiv administration is asking the United States for Multiple Launcher Missile Systems (MLRS), which have a range of about 300 kilometers.

“Military victory is unlikely” against Russia if Washington does not provide advanced artillery systems, said Alexei Arestovich, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to blacknews.ro.

The US will not give Ukraine artillery systems that would allow it to attack Russia even on its territory, although a small number of them would count.

“These weapons are essential for the destiny of Ukraine and for the independence of the nation,” the Ukrainian official argued, noting that even a small number of such weapons systems would change the situation of the conflict.

“Without these systems, we will probably be able to stabilize the front line, but we will lose the fighting in Kherson, Lugansk, Donetsk and in areas of Zaporizhea,” CNN’s Aleksei Arestovici was quoted as saying.

Western states fear that the Ukrainian military could use advanced artillery systems to attack targets on Russian territory, which could escalate the conflict.
