For his millions of followers, Ukrainian YouTuber Anton Ptushkin is best known for his travel videos on mountain roads and seascapes. He now uses his platform to tell people in the West about life in Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

“These things are really scary.”

Ukrainian YouTuber Anton Ptushkin has begun documenting what he saw when Russia invaded his homeland.

It has marked a change from the travel videos that its millions of followers are accustomed to seeing.

“I’m just a traveling guy. I didn’t do politics at all. But on February 24, the policy ended. It’s not about politics, it’s about war, and people are dying. And, of course, you can’t shut up. You have to say something. “

He chronicles daily life in the capital Kyiv.

“From my apartment I decided to move to a safer place.”

And he says that his specialty is personal, emotional stories, such as the moments he shares with his mother.

He said he initially tried to reach his Russian audience with two videos.

“They got a lot of views, but the efficiency of this video was very low.”

So he changed his calls to the people of the West.

“There is democracy in the West. And people, I don’t know, maybe they can watch some of my episodes and ask the elected officials to help Ukraine somehow. “

His approach seems to resonate.

As of Thursday, his video of life under siege had nearly 1.5 million views on YouTube.

“You have to do something because this is your country, it’s your homeland, it’s your city, your friends, your life is here… This is important to me and I hope it’s important to someone in the West as well, because they can understand what it’s like to be in the country and fight the enemy in 2022. It’s crazy, in fact ”.
