Eight school buses entered Lviv’s central square, their empty seats reminiscent of the 243 children killed in the war in Ukraine.
Plush toys and badges with children’s names were placed on some of the chairs, a commemorative event to mark Children’s Day, organized by the Lviv authorities.
“We raise public awareness so that the world can see and stop any cooperation with Russia, so that everyone understands that Russia is a terrorist state, that they, the Russians, are deliberately carrying out the genocide of the Ukrainian people, of the Ukrainian children.” said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.
Ukraine has accused Russia of atrocities and brutality against civilians during the invasion and said it has identified more than 600 war crimes suspects in Russia and has begun prosecuting about 80 of them.
Russia has denied targeting civilians or been involved in war crimes, and has accused Kiev of staging them to defame its forces.
