WhatsApp will no longer work on these phones from October. See if yours is on the list


One of the most popular instant messaging apps, WhatsApp will no longer work on certain phone models starting in October. Find out if the device you’re using is on the blacklist.

WhatsApp has come up with a warning announcing that the app will stop working on certain phone models from October. The announcement is aimed at users who own one of the phone models mentioned below to be able to import their conversations and files.

Major changes brought by the famous platform cause users to install new updates, so older phone models will no longer be compatible with them. A lot of smartphone users rely on this instant messaging app, but now they will have to shift to newer phone models.

Starting October 24, WhatsApp will become unavailable on mobile devices as the company said it can no longer work on older phones due to a new operating system. Newer operating systems can only be supported on certain models, so some users will no longer be able to use the app service.

WhatsApp will no longer work on these phones

Following this update, the app will incorporate several improvements and fix some app bugs. Next, what you will need to do is check the list of phone models below that will no longer be able to update the app to the newest version:

  • iPhone SE, 6S and 6S Plus;
  • Samsung: Samsung Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2 and Galaxy Core;
  • LG: Lucid 2, Optimus F7, Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II Dual, Optimus F5, Optimus L5, Optimus L5 II, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L3 II, Optimus, L7, Optimus L7 II Dual, Optimus L7 II, Optimus F6, Enact, Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus F3, Optimus L4 II, Optimus L2 II, Optimus Nitro HD and 4X HD and Optimus F3Q;
  • ZTE: ZTE Grand S Flex, ZTE V956, Grand X Quad V987 and Grand Memo;
  • Huawei: Huawei Ascend G740, Ascend D Quad XL, Ascend Mate, Ascend D1 Quad XL, Ascend P1 S and Ascend D2;
  • Sony: Sony Xperia Miro, Sony Xperia Neo L, Xperia Arc SAlcatel One Touch Evo 7;
  • Other brands: Archos 53 Platinum, UMi X2, HTC Desire 500, Caterpillar Cat B15, Wiko Cink Five, Wiko Darknight, Lenovo A820, Faea F1, THL W8.
