A woman has been raped aboard a train while police are desperately searching for witnesses. Police have arrested a man after he was attacked in the toilet of a train in East Sussex on Friday, April 22, notes The Sun.
Two men and a woman began talking to each other on the platform before boarding the train from St Leonard’s Warrior Square to Wadhurst, according to the British Transport Police.
One of the men got off the train at Battle, and shortly afterwards police say the other man sexually assaulted the woman and raped her in the toilet.
Police believe the victim and the two men knew each other.
A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail pending further investigation.
Police are now urging witnesses to say what they know if they saw anything.
Detective Gemma Littlewood of BTP’s Major, Serious and Organized Crime Unit said: “It was a shocking and disturbing incident for a young woman who is now receiving specialist support from our officers. Fortunately, we do not seek to identify anyone else in connection with this, but our investigation continues at a brisk pace. I urge all those with information, especially those in the area at the time of the incident, to contact us, as they may have information that could be vital to our investigation. “
The officers want to talk to the other man who was on the train just before the incident took place between 11pm and 11.30pm on April 22, to help with their investigation.
He is described as a white man, aged 50, of medium build and with short shaved hair. He was wearing a dark sweater, gray pants and brown shoes.
